Action Plan!

  • The goal that I want to focus most right now is to be a chartered accountant. To achieve my goal, I have to do well in every test and assignments. By getting at least A- in every subject enables me to get an ATAR of 90 and above and it allows me to enrol University of Sydney.
  • By working towards this goal, I will be opened up to a brighter future. I have the chance to develop and use my skills in the field of endeavor.
  • Unfortunately, I might need to spend more time on studying as I am just an average student. Thus, making me spend less time with my family.
  • In order to become a chartered accountant, I need to finish my South Australian Matriculation by November 2015. Then enrolling to University of Sydney in February 2016. After graduating, I will serve Petronas for 5 years until 2024. In the meantime, I plan to take professional paper (ACCA) and obtain the chartered accountant title before I reach 30 years old.
  • All this while, my family has been my best backbone. They always support me to the end and be there whenever I need them.
  • To achieve this goal, it is impossible to have a clear pathway. Obstacles may appear but I would not be demotivated by them. One of them could be the entertainment in which movies, dramas and internet might distract me from being focus to my goal. Besides,  I have low self-esteem in presenting myself to others.
  • In order to overcome these obstacles, I try my best to manage my time wisely so that I can balance between my studies and leisure. For my low self-esteem, I believe that I would not be forever in this state and I know that I am improving as I started to seek advice and opinions from my friends whenever I face difficulties in certain situations.

SMART Goals

My ultimate goal is to become a chartered accountant by the time I turn 30 years old. In order to become one, I have to finish my studies in South Australian Matriculation by November 2015 and achieve an ATAR of 90 and above to enable me to enrol University of Sydney in February 2016. I am going to major in Bachelor of Commerce and spend 3 years studying there. After that, I will serve a minimum of 5 years with Petronas as what has stated in my contract. I believe I have ample time to prepare myself to be employable and marketable if in any case I leave Petronas and work with other company as an accountant. In the meantime, I am going to take up the professional paper in order to make my dream to be a chartered accountant a reality. My goal is SMART if only I work hard from now and have a clear journey to achieve it. I definitely make it a reality.

Reflective Assignment 1 (Community Service)

Community service was designed to shape individuals who are more aware about the other people in their community and the hardships that these people face, and as a result would help develop a sense of responsibility in this individuals so they would take action by helping those people in need as much as they can.

Anugerah Remaja Perdana (ARP) also known as the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DoEA) provides chances for youth aged 14-24 to develop skills for life and work, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future. Since 14 years old, I involve actively in ARP and manage to obtain the Bronze and Silver medals by the age of 16. Currently, I am listed as one of the Gold Award recipients and waiting for the interview session which will be held in a month or two. In order to obtain the award, I have to successfully complete all components namely physical recreation, skills, adventurous journey, community service and residential project (gold award). So, here's my story for the community service component.

DESCRIBE:

In completing my community service component in order to obtain the Gold award, I served for 60 hours as a volunteer at a school in Johor Bahru for 12 months. My focus  was performing clerical activities and clearing the surrounding of the school. I was entrusted to handle financial matters on behalf of the school by entering data into the computer and prepare the final report of the financial year with the help of a teacher who was responsible for this matter. Besides that, other activities I did to complete this component was to provide the administrative chart, students and teachers timetables and to update the file system information and correspondence students. In the meantime, I was also involved in cleaning the school area including the drains and trimming the plants. Lastly, I was participated together with the school community to join the gotong-royong programme to clean up the area of Mahmoodiah Graveyard.

INTERPRET:

As an individual, I was responsible to assist the community in various ways. Here, I had the opportunity to contribute and apply all the knowledge for the use in clerical task including the knowledge of computing data. This way, I was able to demonstrate my digital literacy. I was in-charged for the cleaning equipment during the cleaning process. And as required, full commitment was given so that I could successfully complete the tasks. This activities has helped me to develop my TGC in citizenship and global perspectives. Indirectly, I was able to put theories into practices as I used the accounting knowledge I learnt in school before . At the end of this session, I've learnt many things  as well as improving my communication and social skills as I have
met various type people while serving to this school.

EVALUATE:

As I developed many skills while completing this component, it will surely help me in various aspects of life in the future. The communication and social skills help me a lot these days as the only way to engage myself with other people is by interacting with them regardless of age, nationality, races and religion. Not to forget, as I grow up, meeting people from all walks of life enable me to widen my horizon and help me to see things in different perspectives.

PLAN:

I strongly believe that the community service I did is very helpful in a way it provides clearer pathway for me to adapt with my challenging life. In South Australian Matriculation, having strong soft skills such as communication, interpersonal, intrapersonal, citizenship and global perspectives and also digital literacy are vital so that I can sail smoothly in this program. In addition, the knowledge I gain throughout my educational year certainly contributes a lot as I plan to major in Accounting and Finance in my tertiary level. But, in order to be an accountant, thinking and problem-solving skill are the most integral parts and I am still lacking in those skills. Therefore, I will grab every opportunity that comes in my way to aid me to improve the necessary skills.

My Learning Style

Today I did two tests regarding my learning style.  I did learning style quiz from a website: http://www.howtolearn.com/learning-styles-quiz/  and a test from a Youtube video. From the tests I did, I can conclude that I am a visual learner.

Results from the first quiz

Results from the Youtube video test

The first quiz was just a normal quiz. A series of questionnaires were given and I needed to answer them in order to determine my learning style. For the second test, tasks given were to follow the instructions carefully. This was conducted in a group of fives. In the first part, I just had to draw the shapes displayed which was easy. The next part was a bit tricky and quite hard as I had to draw while listening to the instructions. The last part was a bit confusing as I had to draw together with the demonstration shown. After the test I had to compare my Part 2 with my friends. Suprisingly, it turned out that only three of us having the same drawings.

Team mates:

  1. Munirah      Visual
  2. Syamira       Visual & Kinaesthetic
  3. Sofiyuddin   Auditory
  4. Amirah        Auditory
  5. Aisyah         Visual

As a visual learner, I learn fast when I have something in front of me to refer to such as slide shows, notes or books. When I learnt Sejarah in Form 5, there were so many details and information to be memorized. Rather than reading line by line all over again, I would make small notes by using colourful sticky notes and pens. That way, I would be able to learn and understand faster. Even though currently I hear most of my lectures in my pre-university program, I will still make notes right after all the classes so that the knowledge would stick in my head and I understand better this time. That is why, a pen and sticky notes are my best friends :)

My Personality and I

"Personality test? Again?" This was what I thought when the lecturer asked me to do the personality test as it is one of the requirements to pass this subject - Personal Development. I took the test and answered all the questions honestly. And this is what I get!

According to the test result, I am an introvert. What to do? I cannot deny it. But I am not a mere introvert as I also involve and socialize with people. The meaning behind getting the percentage is I believe in myself more than I believe in others in certain areas. I prefer to spend my time studying, reading and thinking all by myself. But when it comes to the world out of academic such as entertainment, I will enjoy my life to the fullest and get myself engaged with the world outside myself. This is where shopping, camping, caving and hanging out with my friends take place. Truthfully, I work hard and play hard ;)

It looks like the other three components leading with big margins. It also shown that I am a concrete thinker. With the belief that there will still be tomorrow, I believe what is going to happen on the next day, is the result of what has happened today. That is why my ambition is to be a chartered accountant. It comes up with a similar analogy. Every figure and detail collected and recorded today will give different analysis for the future of the business. Therefore, "now and here" is vital.

I would say I am a person who thinks logically and objectively. Why is it so? I prefer black and white instead of mere discussions and theories. I am not very fond of people who talks and argues with me without any directions. They just need to show me the evidence and I will think twice (consider). To be frank, I do care people's feelings in certain situations as not all matters can be dealt with logical thoughts. I am quite gentle and caring for others too especially to those who are less fortunate. As what my mom always said, "What is the use of a great mind without a warm heart? "

The last component seems to outweigh nearly 90% of my judgement style. Those who have worked with me know my working style and I work well with someone who has the same attitudes as me as we see the goal to be achieved in a designated pathway. I judge people a lot in a way it will benefit me as part of the society as I mentioned above that I am an introvert. Only by judging people, I will be able to know how certain people behave and manage the differences to come up with outstanding outcome.

I believe I am me.  I am responsible for all my thoughts, attitudes and actions. No one else can be me as I am unique and the only one exists in this world. I am proud of myself!
